Keefe Law Firm recently reached a $30 Million settlement with Sylvania, Inc., based on numerous alleged consumer fraud violations. The federal court case alleged that Sylvania misrepresented certain performance characteristics of their premium automotive replacement lighting products, and failed to properly inform consumers about the reduced product life compared to their standard halogen products. Sylvania used these misrepresentations on product packaging as part of a marketing campaign to upsell their customers to higher priced products. In addition to the huge cash fund, our settlement included significant changes to the product packaging and meaningful improvements to Sylvania’s Warranty / Satisfaction Guarantee program.
Keefe Law Firm’s team of consumer fraud attorneys and staff, together with our co-counsel at Eichen Crutchlow Zaslow & McElroy, identified and compensated nearly 1.5 million consumers for their losses – avoiding the significant amount of time and money associated with going to trial. The settlement allows class members to recoup a significant portion of the purchase price they paid for these light bulbs.
Keefe Law Firm is honored to have worked with our co-counsel and pleased to have reached this $30,000,000 settlement on behalf of the class members. As stated by the presiding judge, Judge Cox Arleo, “that is a great settlement, one of the better ones I’ve ever seen.” Chaudhri v. Osram Sylvania, Inc. et al., No. 2:11-cv-05504, filed in the District Court of New Jersey.
