Can Consumers File Lawsuits Over Fiat Chrysler’s Leaking Sunroofs?

Call us today to discuss insurance claim issues.

Keefe Law Firm is representing plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler. The lawsuit involves a vehicle design flaw affecting several Jeep and Chrysler models. Due to a defect with the drainage tubes, moisture accumulates and water leaks into the cabin. Leaks cause damage to upholstery and electronics. Complaints involved the Jeep Patriot, Jeep Liberty, Jeep Compass, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Cherokee, Jeep Commander and Chrysler 300c vehicles. Leaking sunroofs can create multiple other problems with the vehicles, such as:

  • Damage to structural components
  • Electrical shorts
  • Engine stalls
  • Electrical malfunctions with window, seat and radio controls
  • Water damage to upholstery
  • Mold
  • Rust
  • Standing water on the floors of the vehicles

A class action lawsuit was filed against Fiat Chrysler in 2014. Fiat Chrysler had previously filed a motion to dismiss the case, but a judge denied the request and allowed the class action lawsuit to move forward.

All plaintiffs were within the warrant period. However, they claim Fiat Chrysler failed to repair their vehicles. According to Fiat Chrysler, the leaks were caused by factors that are not covered under the warranty. The plaintiffs risk permanently damaging the interior of their vehicles if they drive during bad weather. They cannot receive car washes without incurring the same risks.

Vehicle owners are left picking up the tab for expensive repair costs. Plaintiffs are also forced to spend their time arranging appointments for these expensive repairs. In addition, their vehicles suffer from reduced trade-in or resale value.

The New Jersey consumer fraud attorneys at Keefe Law Firm can help you hold auto manufacturers accountable for refusing to repair defects within the warranty period.
